University or life experience, which do you feel the best prepares you for life? Why?  I feel that for different industries, university experience may be more important for success. However, for the Hospitality Industry I feel like life experience is more important. The Hospitality business is all about people and making connections, which you cannot learn in a classroom. STHM recognizes this and incorporated so much outside work and industry experience into the curriculum, which is what makes Temple Owls stand out as young professionals.

What is/are  your proudest accomplishment(s)? My proudest accomplishment was when I successfully researched and implemented a new lock system at the Windrift Hotel during my junior internship. I switched over the hotel system from key cards to RFID waterproof wristbands. These wristbands open hotel doors and work as guest identification for hotel amenities and security. I’m proud to say that the system was a success and is still being used today.

Where do you want to travel but have never been to? I would most like to travel to Paris, France. I have always liked Paris because of the relaxed culture, fine dining, and fashion! Paris is definitely on my travel list for the future!

What is the  main thing that makes you unique? I am unique because I have had the opportunity to work for resorts on both ends of the spectrum. I have worked with Walt Disney World, a billion dollar company with 66,000 employees, as well as the Windrift Resort, a small family owned property with just over 300 total employees. Working for two vastly different resorts has helped me understand both the smallest details in resort operations as well as how to think of ‘big picture’ operations and how to work with thousands of people a day.

What class(es) is/are the most influential you have taken at Temple University? Why? The classes that I found to be the most influential are Senior Seminar and Hospitality Operations. Hospitality Operations gave us inside looks at hotel properties across the city in every department of a hotel. Professor Walsh had amazing insight and experience that he shared with us to help us learn from real life experience. Senior Seminar has hands down prepared me the best for the industry. I have gained so much practical knowledge through this class that I already know it will be the most influential in my career.

University or life experience, which do you feel the best prepares you for life? Why? I think they are both equally important because they are both going to teach you life lessons of how to be on your own and how someone handles difficult situations.

What is/are  your proudest accomplishment(s)? Some of my proudest moments have come while I was here at Temple.  The first moment would have to be getting accepted to Temple because I wanted to come here for awhile. Second would be in 2013 being a part of the Men’s Gymnastics team that won a conference championship.  Lastly, I know I will be very proud of myself at graduation in May.

Where do you want to travel but have never been to? Italy

What is the  main thing that makes you unique? I would have to say being a gymnast. There are not very many male gymnast because it is a unique sport to begin with.

What class(es) is/are the most influential you have taken at Temple University? Why? My Athletics Administration class influenced me because I really I knew more than I thought and it was really interesting to me and something I could relate to being a student-athlete. I hope to make a career out of it.

Lisa Payton |Marketing Chair

Birthday: February 23rd, 1994

University or life experience, which do you feel the best prepares you for life? Why? Both. A lot of the experiences coincide with each other and I feel as though both can be a learning experience for you.

What is/are  your proudest accomplishment(s)? My proudest accomplishment would have to my most recent, which is securing my senior internship with University of South Florida. Since the beginning of this program I told myself that I would leave Pennsylvania for my senior intern, let alone the area and go down south and I am really happy that I did it all by myself.

Where do you want to travel but have never been to? Somewhere tropical. I’ve been to the Bahamas, Canada and Dominican Republic but I would love to further my travel. I’m not much of a tourist person but I enjoy lounging on the beach.

What is the  main thing that makes you unique? The main thing that makes me unique is the fact that I never settle for what’s “good enough”. I love evolving and learning to perfect my skills.

What class(es) is/are the most influential you have taken at Temple University? Why? Athletics Administration with Kristy Sromovsky. She is a compliance director at Temple University and she really influenced my decision of where I wanted to work in the future. I love all the aspects of NCAA, good and bad, and I enjoy learning more about how athletic departments function within their policies.

What is the  main thing that makes you unique? My drive to get tasks done in an organizational and efficient manner make me unique.

Birthday: 11/11/1991

University or life experience, which do you feel the best prepares you for life? Why? Experience prepares you for life but without a college/university diploma many doors will never open for you.

Where do you want to travel but have never been to? Hong Kong, Greece, Italy, France, Japan, Singapore.

What is the main thing that makes you unique? I think I am an observant individual which makes me different than others. I don’t like imaging things that I know that can’t be happening .I am realistic and tend to focus on what is happening or has already happened. Also, I am highly practical and pragmatic when dealing with things.

What class(es) is/are the most influential you have taken at Temple University? Why? Firstly, Sales in Tourism and Hospitality because it gave me a chance to develop certain skills and knowledges to gain experience in my industry. Secondly, Senior Seminar because it gave a chance to be in a leadership role and through this role, I was able to learn and experience the practical knowledge that I feel that it will be not best and well prepared for my future career after graduation.

University or life experience, which do you feel the best prepares you for life? Why? Life experiences because even though University Life does help prepare you, there is no substitute for actually real world and life experiences. Life experiences can be better translated and harked back on when going through a new problem.

What is/are  your proudest accomplishment(s)? My resiliency after becoming ill, Winning a National Championship in soccer and hitting a hole in one.

Where do you want to travel but have never been to? Hawaii, Dubai, Japan, Spain, and Italy

What is the main thing that makes you unique? My ability to adapt to situations

What class(es) is/are the most influential you have taken at Temple University? Why? Hospitality Management Systems because it gave us hands on training of how to run a property through simulation.

Julie Storr | Fundraising Chair

Birthday: July 11

University or life experience, which do you feel the best prepares you for life? Why? I feel that real world experience best prepares your for life. College classes help to prepare you but there is nothing more helpful than a real situation to test your abilities.

What is the  main thing that makes you unique? My proudest accomplishment is coming into this program three semesters behind, and still graduating on time.

Where do you want to travel but have never been to? I most want to travel back to Europe. I went to a bunch of countries, but I still want to visit Ireland, Greece and Spain. Outside of Europe I really want to visit South Africa and Brazil.

What is the  main thing that makes you unique? The main thing that makes me unique is my drive and passion. When something means a great deal to me, I give it my all and push for the best outcome and do not let anything stop me from getting the best results.

What class(es) is/are the most influential you have taken at Temple University? Why? The class that was the most influential during my time at Temple University was Management in Sport and Recreation. It wasn’t until I took this class at Temple that I knew where I wanted to be in my collegiate career and with my life. I knew from that class that I wanted to go into the management part of the sport and recreation industries and with that class I was able to learn to be the best leader I could be.

Kevin Feinberg | Global Cultural Awareness Chair

Kevin Feinberg | Global Cultural Awareness Chair

Birthday: August 12, 1994

University or life experience, which do you feel the best prepares you for life? Why? One of my biggest takeaways from my time at Temple has been my experiences. Having worked with a handful of professional teams and sport organizations prior to graduating, I am confident that I am prepared for life as a professional in the sport and recreation industry.

What is/are your proudest accomplishment(s)? In school, my proudest accomplishment has been maintaining a GPA that puts me near the top of my graduation class. Outside of the classroom, I have ran 4 half marathons, 1 marathon and won 2 City 6 Softball titles during my time at Temple.

Where do you want to travel but have never been to?  Europe. I have never had the opportunity to travel outside of the Western Hemisphere and feel there is so much I have not been exposed too. Also, traveling to Japan to catch some baseball action wouldn’t be too bad either!

What class(es) is/are the most influential you have taken at Temple University? Why? In the classroom, I can be quiet on occasion. However, I am known for painting my chest and leading the heartbeat of Temple’s student section based on my involvement with the Cherry Crusade over the years. I would have to say Sales with Ridall. We were exposed to a practical setting and given hands on experience rather than the usual lecture and test structure.

Ariel Grayson |Newsletter Chair

Ariel Grayson |Newsletter Chair

Birthday: July 7th, 1991

University or life experience, which do you feel the best prepares you for life? Why?  Life experience better prepares a person for life. There is so much to learn in a classroom but when a person can practice and implement it hands on, that is when the concept turns into reality.

What is/are your proudest accomplishment(s)? Serving in the Israeli Defense Force and being able to get multiple internships.

Where do you want to travel but have never been to? Greece, Thailand and Australia

What is the  main thing that makes you unique? I am out-of-the-box. I like to try and do things a different way. I don’t accept that there is one way to get something done in life. I enjoy challenging myself to find something new or innovative.

What class(es) is/are the most influential you have taken at Temple University? Why? The classes that have most influenced me at Temple would be my Sales class and Senior Seminar. In Sales, a lot of the class was hands on and really finding a way to work through a sales situation. I now do that at my internship so it was able to give me a good basis. The other class would be Senior Seminar. I have been able to better build my network and that will help me in the future.

Joe Martin | Corporate Social Responsibility Chair

Joe Martin | Corporate Social Responsibility Chair

Birthday: August 1, 1992

University or life experience, which do you feel the best prepares you for life? Why? I feel our mistakes are what best prepares us for life. As college students, we have all done things that we have regretted, and all of us have made mistakes. But, we are able to learn and grow from them, which prepares us for the next time we are in a similar situation.

What is/are your proudest accomplishment(s)? Over the past three years, I have been extremely successful as a head coach for an American Legion baseball team. I would say being able to coach these kids has been my proudest accomplish to date.

Where do you want to travel but have never been to? Europe

What is the  main thing that makes you unique? I would say it is my personality. Also, having two different colored eyes is as unique as it gets.

What class(es) is/are the most influential you have taken at Temple University? Why? Senior Seminar. I have been able to grow up not only on a professional level, but also on a personal level. This class has allowed me to create connections and bonds with fellow students that I know will carry on after this class ends.
