Joel Kay, Chair
A senior in Temple University’s School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Joel Kay was born and raised in a small town called Drums, Pennsylvania. After deciding to further his education at Temple University, he completed his junior internship with Festivities Events where he was an event planning intern. He plans to one day own his own business, but in the meantime is trying to become involved with hotel operations. He loves listening to music, watching and participating in sports, and anything that involves the outdoors, from fishing to camping and hiking.
Rachel Cieri is from Hatboro, Pennsylvania and her major is tourism and hospitality management at Temple University. Her latest hospitality experience was when she did her junior internship. She interned at Prince Theater this past spring and focused on venue operations and event planning. Rachel’s duties were to manage the front of house staff, learn to make spreadsheets on our inventory, organize the prop closet area and help set up and brainstorm for events. This internship really opened her eyes and broadened her understanding of the event planning industry and is what got her to choose her concentration in event leadership. She hopes to eventually be an event planner for an event planning company or hotel.
Mikaela Postlethwait calls Albuquerque, New Mexico home after moving there in 2008. Throughout her adolescence and into college, she was a competitive gymnast and competed for Temple University her first two years. During this time, Mikaela traveled around the country to compete and found her love for traveling. This led her to pursue her degree in tourism and hospitality management. She spent her summer interning for American Cruise Lines on a small river cruise boat. This internship gave her the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of cruising and how all aspects come together to create the end result. This summer sparked her interest in the cruise industry and she plans on joining the industry again after her graduation in May.
